Conceptual Art Show of Students' Work at The Art Students League

  • The Art Students League of New York 215 West 57th Street New York, NY, 10019 United States (map)

This Art Students League gallery show features conceptual art created by students during 2020 and 2021, and is curated by Ellen Sturm Niz under the direction of interdisciplinary artist Elizabeth Demaray and with the support of class monitor Abigail He.

In the Conceptual Art: a Master Class for Everyone class at The Art Students League, instructor Elizabeth Demaray traced the history of generative art while pairing with The Art Students League community to make works of conceptually based art. Conceptual art is based on the assertion that the essence of art is an idea or concept that may exist independently from an object as its representation. Historically associated with the dematerialization of the art object, the strategies of this movement are the hallmarks of contemporary art and form the foundation of such divergent practices as eco-art, performance art, video art, new media, community art, art/sci collaboration and intermedia.
